I started this before I left Montreal and have picked it up in fits and starts since then based on other travel and conflicts. I wish wish wish I would have just saved this and read it all in one go. The narrative is complicated, interwoven and requires a lot from the reader. The storyline of multiple lives of Ursula Todd isn't perfect, but the stories are finely crafted, full of rich and interesting characters. A fascinating blend of fantasy and historical fiction. Ursula Todd is born (the first time) on a snowy night in 1910. With the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, she dies before ever drawing her first breath. And then we rewind and she is born again—this time with a doctor present who is able to cut the cord before it’s too late. Ursula dies and starts again many times. I loved the nuances of her journey and the choices she makes along the way.
