I can see why this is a fan favorite. King is adept at making the horror feel real. Many vampire books feel like they are in a world where it isn't terribly surprising that vampires exist. In this novel, it feels like the real world with characters that have to convince themselves that what they are seeing is real. One of my favorite Stephen King books.
Jerusalem's Lot is a small town where gossip spreads like wildfire and everyone is aware of the secrets people try to keep. When several strangers come to town and, at the same time, local children begin to disappear or to die suddenly and inexplicably, some unlikely heroes step forward to stop a great evil.

This was the second time I've read this one. I loved the way King riffs off Bram Stoker. That said, this one does feel a bit dated - the book has a very 1970's feel.
