I can see why this is a fan favorite. King is adept at making the horror feel real. Many vampire books feel like they are in a world where it isn't terribly surprising that vampires exist. In this novel, it feels like the real world with characters that have to convince themselves that what they are seeing is real. Since he isn't afraid to kill a well-developed and loved main character, you feel the extreme sadness of it all as well. As with most of his early work, it does have to be read keepin ...more
