Re-read January 2023
I reread this book as part of my 50 by 50 goal to revisit some old favorites. I remembered this one scaring me, and I remembered a hilarious passage about peas, but really couldn't remember much more (that's a me issue - not a writing issue! My retention is kind of garbage... hence the reason I write reviews so I can reference them to see what I've read and liked/disliked.)

I LOVED this book. ( It's short enough to read in one day, if you plan ahead - and I intend to do exactly that after I finish the book I'm reading now.) It's a dreamlike world that you slip into and don't want to leave, although there are disturbing things in it. More later.

*Edit*: Rereading this was an entirely different experience and much much more depressing.
I will argue with you for hours to defend reader's rights to love or hate any book that they want. In Reader's Advisory we stay away from describing "good" books or "well written" books. But for some reason, I feel like I had the wrong reaction to this. I wanted to like it, but it was just....ok. There are some great things.
