It was definitely a quick read, and I did notice some Twin Peaks references/influences, but it was just a bit far-fetched and the ending didn’t satisfy me. I was so into the twisty weird beginning and I just didn’t love how all of that came together and got resolved. Also WTF with the unnecessary weird unexplained violence?!

Obviously inspired by Twin Peaks, at the beginning distractingly so. There are a lot of familiar elements to this story, but it doesn't settle easily into one genre: it is thriller, sci-fi, and horror all in one confusing and slightly dissatisfying jumble. There is enough of a mind -**** going on to keep you reading until the end and still, you're left wondering what the heck you just read. Not literature, but not a waste of time. in the first chapter where Ethan is describing what he's wearing and then what he looks like after he finally sees himself in the mirror was giving 2000s YA and i love that.
anyway, it's perfectly readable and perfectly boring. it's adult scifi for people who are too embarrassed to read YA.
