I'm about to lose it on Claire.
Wah. He beat me... "Maybe he's right." Did she really say that? Is this a Lifetime movie or "literature?" Is the alternate title of this book, "How to become a victim of domestic violence?" Give me a break. I don't know if I can keep reading. This has totally ruined an otherwise enjoyable read.

This is quite an epic story. It is very intricately crafted. I have wanted to read this book for some time. I'm glad I made the time now.

I keep changing my mind about this stupid book. On one hand, it makes me angry and I don't like how its just totally okay that he beats her. People justify this by claiming that it was culturally appropriate, but I feel confident that there were plenty of marriages in 18th c. Scotland that didn't involve physical abuse. My husband doesn't beat me, and I'm pretty sure its NOT because of cultural pressure. He's just not an abuser. So I'm pretty annoyed by that.

So, fourth time is the charm. After three previous attempts to read this book, I actually got past the part where Claire goes back in time, spurred on by the watching of the first episode of the tv series. And I enjoyed it.
