**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #1 A Book With More Than 500 Pages**
This book could have been amazing. If it were about 300 pages shorter. I enjoyed parts of it. The writing was superb though. I will give it that. And the narrator of the audiobook did a terrific job.
Everybody kept telling me that once you get past the first few chapters you'll get to a point where you can't put the book down. I found that not to be the case. There were certain parts that were exciting and kept me glued to the ...more

I began this book on the second full day of my covid-convalescence. All I read was the e-reader version from my library. I finished it in a little more than 2 days, and I did not sleep well on those two nights.
I was drawn into the story of Claire and her husband Frank easily. I like stories set in the 1940s, especially the post-war era, since I've read so many books that were set during the war. Although I've only spent a few days in Scotland almost three decades ago, I remember my time there a ...more

The beautiful love story of Jamie and Claire :)
It starts with a 27 year old nurse called Claire in the year 1945, childless but happily married to Frank Randall and living a quiet life in post war Scotland.
One day she goes investigating a plant she sees in a stone circle, when she suddenly gets pulled in and finds herself in the year of the Lord 1743 about two hundred years prior her time.
She encounters Frank's six-time great grandfather Jonathan Randall otherwise known as Jack Black. Then gets ...more

I have mixed opinions on this. I found the beginning and the end to be very slow, with the end becoming a laborious process to get through (much skimming was involved). The rest was entertaining, but repetitive. It was fun and kept me entertained while stuck on the couch with an injury. However, I don't know that I have the desire to read any of the other books in the series.

This book should have been called, "Sex, Torture, and Time Travel". The author will trick you into finishing this 850 page epic with her great character development, beautiful Scottish highland descriptions, and a sweeping love story in which the characters are married, falling more and more in love, and continuing to rescue each other from almost-certain death in the time of clan rivalries and kingdom betrayals. DO NOT READ IT. There are too many (married) sex scenes and lots of recounts of tor

Been meaning to read this series forever, finally started and so far like what I hear...
Finished the book. A fun, engaging story but a lot more sex than I anticipated especially since it was recommended by my mother in law (; Ha ha! It made me really want to go to Scotland to see where my ancestors lived and I am looking forward to seeing the movie and reading the next book in the series!
