I have a lot of mixed feeling about this book. First off there seemed to be a lot of stops and starts, so I had trouble maintaining a real interest the whole way through. Marquez also has a habit of going into extreme detail leading up to an event, and then just stops and moves and on, which was really annoying.

Well, I finally finished this book! Was it a terrible book? No. Why did it take me so long to read? 1) it went on for like 50 pages at a time with no place to stop which was a style I had trouble with 2) The ENTIRE story was a guy pining over a girl...not a lot of opportunity for the plot to thicken! All in all, a decent piece of literature but not one of my favorites.

I am really excited to be reading this book for our book club. Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my favorite authors, but I have had this book on my shelves forever and not read it. His prose is so lushly beautiful, and the depth of emotion in them really grabs hold of me...I can't imagine why I've been putting it off! :-) ...more

Shelves: couldn-t-finish

I give up. I can’t finish it. I have too many books I want to read. The story is just so sad - unrequited love is too frustrating to read about no matter how beautiful the writing.
