i read this at the recommendation of a friend...it is outside of my normal zone of books and i always appreciate when people give me recommendation for books out side of my zone...having said that i doubt i would have picked this up on my own and even if i had i doubt i would have finished it...it didn't grab me and i struggled...i also had issues with the flow of the book and there is a blaring error that caused me to yell out loud to my living room...i know others have connected to this book a ...more

I'm not giving it 5 stars because it was well written...it wasn't. When I read up on this novel afterward, I found out that this guy was actually encouraged by his wife to write this book for his kids and it was self-published, which explains the lack of editing, especially in the first few chapters of setting up the story. UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. In fairness, I didn't know a thing about this book except what the front cover looked like (spooky), so I was all set for a mystery or a crime drama. Really wanted to give this one something between one and two stars. The prose was just awkward. More than anything, it reminded me of The Celestine Prophecy - philosophy / agenda clumsily inserted into a less-than-thrilling narrative. If you want to write a treatise, write a treatise. Leave the novel-writing to others.
