I love Cormoran Strike and I was so excited to read his next adventure. The premise is interesting: a writer is dead because he wrote lots of bad secrets about real people in his next book. The gory details, dark secrets and mysteries, are really promising. But somehow there's something amiss here. The complicated details are slowing down the plot, and although I'm happy that Galbraith took time to develop the characters (including relationship between Cormoran and Robin), some of the red herrin ...more

Cormoran and Robin are back, busier than ever. In this second in the series, an author is brutally murdered after writing a book that will expose the dark secrets of his colleagues if it gets published. Robin’s role as assistant/detective-in-training continues to evolve and expand (yay!).

I liked this one better than the first, though I don't need the sexual tension between Strike and Robyn. For a thriller type novel it's a good pace, the characters are dynamic enough to keep me involved and I always felt on the edge of knowing who it was and then had the rug yanked out from under me. The outcome is a little convoluted, but who cares, the book is fast and fun. Hoping that there are many more books to come in this series.

Cormoran Strike is so wonderfully gritty, and his assistant, Rachel, is delightfully sassy and smart. The mystery in this second book of the series was quite intriguing. A despised author has been murdered in a grotesque way, and Strike is hellbent on proving that the wife didn't do it. Unfortunately, the boring secondary characters, the drawn out descriptions, and bogged down dialogue kept me from loving the book entirely. I love the main characters, I love the suspense and intrigue, b

There are parts of this book that are great, but then there's the fact that I walked away from it for months and wasn't the least bit curious what happened. I did come back and finish it and I have mixed feelings. I think JK's an amazing writer and in I love some of the characters, but I didn't really care get amped up about the heart of the story being the contents of another book.

Not sure I'm terribly interested in continuing this series.
