Audiobook review:
I think I might have expected more from this book than I should have going into it. So many people had read it that I loved, trusted, believed in and got super hyped/deadlined by the coming show.
I really loved the short asides about the deities more than the main storylines. I liked seeing how they were beloved, or not, traveled to America, the gods America had birthed, and how they'd affected people, getting lost or loved until the death of the person who never forgot. ...more

I almost gave up on this one half a dozen times, and if I had another audio book for my car I probably would have. This is one of those books that isn't necessarily about the plot, but Gaiman is trying to make a larger point. For example he makes statements like: Americans love to believe but don't take responsibility for their beliefs. I have not been in the mood in which I want to think too deeply about the authors underlying point, I just want a good story, and this really wasn't.

There's a bit of everything in this book, from mythology to fantasy to history to adventures and action and even a bit of fairy tale. Neil Gaiman is the man if you want to find something unusual yet still familiar with our world. The war within old gods and new gods in America- the land of opportunity (but is it still true for the old gods?). Shadow the main character is pretty badass but still likable for his humility.
