Why did I wait so long to read this and wow did I read it so fast? This is one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking, tragic, hopeful, inspiring reads. It is also one of the hardest to read. I felt tore open so many times. Craig Thompson has, again, created an amazing work of art.
I wanted to cry and felt as if I lost two people I cared so much about, when I finished this. It is a tough read, it feel dark and hopeless many times but pain and horror lead to love and beauty.

Intense! I know from reading 'Carnet de Voyage' and 'Goodbye Chunky Rice' that Craig Thompson has both a wicked sense of humor and is really good at simple tenderness. I wish that was the case with 'Habibi', which instead is THE MOST SERIOUS BOOK I've ever read and hits you over the head continually with its MESSAGE and SERIOUSNESS. I'm sure I missed tons of Biblical references what with being a godless person, but this was difficult read for me all around and specifically in the objectification

This comic was massively hyped both by the shop I bought it from and by authors I respect who had provided blurbs and reviews, so I had huge expectations. Unfortunately they weren't quite met, which has left me with the over-hyped, under-delivered aftermath. The artwork was stunning and intricate, the story was interesting and not at all predictable, the themes were moving and compelling, but somehow it just didn't grab me as strongly as I'd expected it to. I love Craig Thompson. I didn't know that he had a new graphic novel out until I saw this on the library shelves. This book encompasses a lot of stuff: Christianity, Islam, how stories help us. I loved it.
