This was way more intense than the "fluffy beach read" cover made me think. Maybe I should have noticed the Stephen King blurb instead of the pink. Definitely a trigger warning about domestic violence and bullying, but well worth pushing through discomfort for this very important story.

It's as juicy as you could expect from Liane Moriarty. She's back with all of her elements: small neighborhood in Australia, crazy ambitious parents in a suburban good school, mystery and secrets between families and friends. And gossip and murder, of course!
The theme range from bullying to rape and domestic violence, but Moriarty is one skillful writer who could weave any serious theme into a juicy, funny story full of interesting characters. I read this in one day and still feel the glee! ...more

The tone of this book was confusing. It starts off with a mystery - someone has died in what appears to be an extreme “Mommy Wars” situation, and we don’t know who or why. There’s a lot of comedy in the beginning (Is this about the lice outbreak? Did a nut allergy mom get mad when another parent packed an illegal PB&J in a kid’s lunchbox?) but the story becomes dark, with issues such as domestic violence coming to the surface. Quick read and a lot of fun---you are guessing until the end which character is the victim and which is the perpetrator of an implied crime. A few of the characters are fleshed out with strong voices and great dialogue. Others are really stereotypes, but that's okay, too; they serve their purposes and help move the plot along. I hear this is going to be a television series and it should be a crowd pleaser.
