What is this???

Totally unexpected dark tale from Haruki Murakami :D Somehow the fantasy theme here reminds me more of Neil Gaiman's style. It's still enjoyable though, especially with all the beautiful illustrations and dark imaginings, and I love the format of this book so much (I read the pink cover one).

Not what I expected from Murakami, but pretty refreshing, too!

Um. Huh. Not really sure what to say.

I saw this on the "New Releases & In Demand" bookshelf at the library. It intrigued me. The illustrations throughout the book caught my attention. The fact that it was a pretty short story made me feel a little adventurous and I figured the worst that would happen is I'd use an hour or so of my life reading something different than my normal fare. And that's exactly what happened. I didn't hate it. I just thought it was pretty random with a liberal dose of s

It is amazing that Murakami is able to pack so many strange and poignant ideas about knowledge, reading, and bravery into such a short story. This would be a great entry point to Murakami as many as his tried and true techniques are on display in a powerful abbreviated form.

A book about a library? I can get behind that! This feels like some kind of fever dream though. I didn’t know how to categorize it because it feels almost like horror?....fantasy?....magical realism? The title is perfect though because it is definitely strange.

This was a creepy, good little book about a boy who discovers the real payment that librarians exact for providing free knowledge.

a novella by one of my favorite authors?? Yes, please. The Strange Library was the perfect little book to read on Halloween. A boy goes to his local library and is pointed to a room he's never visited. There he meets a strange man and is led through a basement labyrinth... This story is weird, bizarre, quirky, intelligent... everything I like about Murakami's writing. ...more

A bizarre fairy-tale like story (novella?) about a dangerous library that traps the very people who want to use it. The sheep man was the more striking character, but certainly not the most interesting.
