Oh the teenage angst! No I am not in the target audience for this or any other John Green novel. The questions and the themes (in this novel being religious enlightenment, death and the grief process) break through the age barrier. Things like the feeling of invinsibility of youth can be remembered, but processed differently as an adult reader.

If you can get over the crass language and inordinate amount of underage drinking and smoking-which is a bulk of what the characters do, then there is some interesting dialogue among the characters. I couldn't relate to any of the characters or the setting and the only part I even really enjoyed was the junior prank with the guest speaker-that was hilarious. John Green doesn't disappoint. I wish I had read this book before I read Paper Towns because they were similar, but this book has some great lines in it and was (I think) stronger than Paper Towns overall.

Man, John Green sure likes to slap you in the face with reality. What sucks about that is the fact that he makes you care about the characters first, before bringing big fat tragedy into their lives. It effects me, John Green, it really does. So, this book starts out with camaraderie, young love, awkward moments, funny moments, and so on, then bam! Tragedy. Sadness, anguish, depression, blame, anger, sorrow, ugh. It works, though. I was caught up in the story, I felt their pain, I was swept away
