I am like the last person on the planet of readers who read this, so not going to spend too much time crafting a eloquent and intelligent review. It has all already been said. Really. There are about 4.2 million reviews of this book, some are classic This Sucked/Ruled and Here's Why, and others that qualify for master's level thesis.

Book one in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Reading Game of Thrones is like watching a blockbuster action movie. Every now and then there will be a flash of emotional connection between characters, but mostly it's just a long fight scene.

It was good enough to keep my interest and read the 2nd one. It is really dense, though, and don't feel like there was enough resolution in the book.

I enjoyed this book. It was very long and complex, quite well-written. The odd thing is I cannot decide if I want to continue to read the series. I care enough about the characters to want to know what happens to them (do Arya and Nemeria ever reunite? Does Jon end up ruling the 7 Kingdoms?) but these books require a major time commitment. Only time will tell.

It took me three tries to finally get through this book. It started slow and there are So. Many. Characters. Once I got into it though it was really good. Ultimately I plan to read the rest of the series but I'm not really in any kind of hurry.

I never thought I'd get into fantasy books, but I've fallen into the the spell of the Game of Thrones juggernaut. Great writing, great plots and a great escape. If you've seen the HBO series, I highly recommend the books.
