Crazy, crazy ride. George R.R Martin can take me away to the Seven Kingdoms without too much effort. The characters are very rich, with vivid details that can make me feel that I have known them all my life. I sympathized with them, I laughed at their jokes and wittiness, I cried at their deaths. Now I can't wait to grab the second book and devour it. But personally I think the tv series are a bit too over dramatic, especially with the sex. So far I prefer to read the books first before continui

I am like the last person on the planet of readers who read this, so not going to spend too much time crafting a eloquent and intelligent review. It has all already been said. Really. There are about 4.2 million reviews of this book, some are classic This Sucked/Ruled and Here's Why, and others that qualify for master's level thesis.

This is one of those books that I would have appreciated so much more if it had been split into two. I was interested for the better part of the book, but it started to loose me with a third of the book left. By then I had my favorite characters and was getting bored with the rest.
I have heard that the show is better than the books and am curious to compare.

Very, very good book.
My only beef with it is the ages of the kids that are the main characters - especially Dany and Robb.
Dany's story was entirely too mature for a 14 year old - regardless of any historical age thing. It almost seemed obscene at times when you remembered her age. And as for Robb, commanding an army with any real expertise at 15? I don't buy that either.
Still, I am going to read the next one. ...more

Love the book. Reminds me of Follett's "world without end". ...more

It took me three tries to finally get through this book. It started slow and there are So. Many. Characters. Once I got into it though it was really good. Ultimately I plan to read the rest of the series but I'm not really in any kind of hurry.
