I was not sure if I would like this series or not. I had not watched the show before I started reading the first book, and I'm glad.
The characters and the intrigue are the most compelling to me so far. Having the chapters from the points of view of the characters further cement readers' connections to them. This book was good - but very detailed and very loooong. I liked the story but there was so many characters to keep track of, it made for difficult reading if you want to remember everything. i had my favorite characters but there were others i didn't care about. The war/battle scenes also got to be a bit much. BUT i really did like the book a great deal. I may read the rest of the series but i definitely want to see the TV show.

Wow, I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was epic, it was full of excellent characters, plus a thrilling through-line, with some magic and fantasy thrown in. Thank you, world of Facebook for bringint the TV show to my attention, thus leading me to this book. (Although at close to 800 pages I wish it could count as two books towards my reading challenge!). Looking forward to the second book in this series.
Such a good book!! Too much sex, but otherwise, really well done.
The TV series really did an excellent job of depicting this book. If you've seen the series, you know what happens. In this case, I'm glad I saw the series before reading the book. The audiobook is excellent. The question is whether I continue reading the series.....
