I have raised this to a 5* read. Maybe I'm older and wiser.
This is a more sophisticated read than Pride and Prejudice. More complicated, the language more challenging.
I still would like more Captain Wentworth and (perhaps quixotically) Mr Elliot (the cousin) I felt this was an area for a greater rivalry or at least aftermath of the announcement.

Overall though Anne Elliot is a lovely narrator and worth investing your love and attention to learn her story.

Jane! Loved this story about one of her most “mature” characters, at the age of seven-and-twenty. Sometimes I need a book to transport me to a completely different time and place, where the stakes aren’t too high but the book isn’t fluff. In fact, the more I read Jane, the more I see her social commentary on class and gender, and her razor sharp wit! I was literally laughing outloud on my walk listening to her throw shade on those people in Bath. There’s nothing like snark written in Regency lan ...more

It's interesting for me to rate this book. I'm settling on 5 stars, but do I love it as much as Pride and Prejudice? No. So my battle with myself is how can I rate it the same. I'm torn. I did really love this book and I woke up early to finish it. Maybe it's because I've read P&P so many times and each time I read it, I love it all over again, while this is my first read of Persuasion. Perhaps when I'm reading P&P I'm picturing Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in the lead roles and my adoration of ...more

Summer Bingo - Originally published posthumously.

2020 reread - sadly not anywhere near Bath (or Bristol), but with another year of life under my belt. I'm never sure if this book or Emma is my favorite Austen, and I've finally decided I don't care to decide. I adore Anne. I sympathize with the crazy things that must be going on in her head to deal with her family (her dad, her older sister, her younger sister, all GAH!), regrets about past decisions, and simply doing her best to BE her best. als

Of course this is not the first time I have read this, but I listened to it as an audiobook while on my walks and enjoyed it just as much as ever. I think audio is a good way to see things in a book that you might miss without the emphasis of the reader. Love it.
