It's interesting for me to rate this book. I'm settling on 5 stars, but do I love it as much as Pride and Prejudice? No. So my battle with myself is how can I rate it the same. I'm torn. I did really love this book and I woke up early to finish it. Maybe it's because I've read P&P so many times and each time I read it, I love it all over again, while this is my first read of Persuasion. I know that I breezed through this book some weekend in high school, but I barely remembered the plot. Persuasion is so tense, so much more fraught than other Austen novels--perhaps in part because the action of the story takes place in a shorter time span than Pride & Prejudice--I don't know. I love Anne Elliot and the way that she triumphs over her nasty father and mean-spirited sisters. Not my favorite Jane Austen. I know its supposed to be deep. I'm thinking maybe if I were a little more invested in the time period I would get why certain things got so much play. I also struggled to keep track of who was who. Oh well, better luck next time.
