I made sure to start this book a good ten days before book club, because I was sure it would be a trial - to say this type of book isn't my usual choice would be an understatement. I will not watch movies about war and can count on one hand the war books I've read. I began before bed one night, expecting to get through ten pages. When complete exhaustion finally hit, I was on page 254.

It was amazing. While it was very depressing at times and sometimes very hard to get through, the book was just amazing. I have never read Seabiscuit, but this was just an amazing piece of non-fiction. I normally don't cry while reading, but the last few chapters brought me to tears and had just managed them to wipe them away just in time to finish the book. Highly recommended.

Unbroken is an excellent account of one man's experiences during WWII. If you are interested in WWII stories, definitely pick this up. Laura Hillenbrand's writing is a joy to read

I loved this book! I actually listened to it as an audiobook, and I think that it really added to the experience. The narrator was perfect. Zamperini's life is absolutely incredible - hard to imagine that one person experienced all that he did. Beyond his own story, the book provided great insight into that generation's burdens.
