I normally try to avoid book spoilers, but I couldn't resist googling the people involved, the B24 they flew in and whether a movie is in the works -- yes there is, because you'd have be insane to not see the movie potential in a story this amazing.

Unbroken refers to the spirit of Louis Zamperini, the subject of this history. The book traces Zamperini's journey from mischievous child to Olympic athlete to WWII bombardier to prisoner of war to Christian inspirational speaker. Zamperini certainly had an eventful life and I enjoyed the sections on the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and the POW camps in Japan. I feel that the author didn't explore Zamperini's psychology and really explain why he managed to survive the dehumanizing conditions of the P

This book was outstanding. I ready it in a day and a half while on vacation. I could not put it down. The story is about Louie Zamnperini who rain in the 1936 Olympics and actually met Adolf Hitler at the games. Then he joined the Air Corps during WWII. His plane crashed and thus began his ordeal of surviving on a life raft with two other soldiers, becoming a POW where he was beaten and starved by sadistic Japanese guards. Very power story of resilience.

This guy's story was AMAZING, how did one human being live through all these different experiences?!?! (I'm not telling you anything that's not on the jacket cover, don't worry.) A troubled LA teen (from Torrance, actually) is saved by sports and becomes an Olympic athelete. When war breaks out he joins the new Army Air Force, only to have his plane crash over the Pacific where he has to somehow survive while lost at sea (think Life of Pi). And that's just what happens in the first half of the b

AHS bookclub book...it is getting rave reviews. I had to skim the major bits about the POW camps. I read enough to know the major players and their atrocities. I liked it. I found it informative. I didn't love it. I felt a bit badly for Phil who never seemed to get the recognition Louie did.

I loved this book! I actually listened to it as an audiobook, and I think that it really added to the experience. The narrator was perfect. Zamperini's life is absolutely incredible - hard to imagine that one person experienced all that he did. Beyond his own story, the book provided great insight into that generation's burdens.

I tried to read this book a couple of years ago, and wasn't able to get through it. After hearing many great things about it, I fought my way through it this year, and I'm glad I did. Although it was a slow read, it was a good story - one of hope and forgiveness in the midst of terrible circumstances.
