This was a great read. It's the story of a young woman, Alice, who goes to work at a textile mill in Lowell, MA. The novel deals with the stereotypes of these women, and the hardships they endure. The central action revolves around a suspicious death and the resulting trial, as Alice becomes an emissary between the mill workers and the family who owns and operates the mill. A great story with wonderful characters.
