Very very interesting "retelling" of the life of Christ, the documentation of his life, and the rise of the church. Offers an interesting perspective of the validity of scripture, and what Jesus might think of both it and the church. Certainly should be taken as the fiction that it is, but Pullman definitely makes you think and, I think, makes some really valid points. interesting from a storytelling perspective, but otherwise, not that engaging. perhaps because i'm personally somewhat . . . estranged from the subject matter, this didn't have a huge impact on me, though i appreciated the way that pullman framed it in a somewhat contemporary way, and turned it into a parable about truth and storytelling and the tension between the two.
