YA feminist fantasy about fighting and taking down the patriarchy? Sure! This was a good, fast read, though more brutal (and at the same time removed from that brutality) than I thought it would be. I was looking for a light and entertaining book by an African author, but I just cannot with this book.
It ticks all my buttons:
* first person present tense
* that repetitive style so popular in YA where choppy phrases are lumped together for drama
* a plot that makes no sense
* wayyyyyy too much talk about "purity" in young women
Their village is best by terrifying paranormal creatures that are hard to kill (the "deathshrieks") and there are some among them who are demon slayers with special power ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I'm seeing it get a lot of comparisons to Children of Blood and Bone, but I liked this one even better. Countless strong women abound.
