I think I was worried that the book would be much more focused on Zauner's musical career (which didn't interest me that much, as I didn't even know who Japanese Breakfast was before I heard about this book). My first piece of advice is read/listen when you’re not hungry. Zauner’s descriptions of Korean cuisine are mouthwatering. This memoir is about adult parent-child relationships, dealing with terminal illness and integrating who your parents are with who you are.
So, I realllllly wanted to love this book, especially because her story is almost identical to mine with my mother. But, for some reason, it just fell flat for me. It wasn’t bad but it was just ok.
