An unusual book in which you are never quite sure what is happening and things aren't really explained. You are left to work things out with hints and context, much like Klara is.

There are a lot of complex ideas and themes in this book, which I totally expect from Ishiguro. We could discuss what it means to be human, religion, eugenics, or obsolescence. But here’s the thing - I didn’t care enough about any character in this novel to really want to do that. I found Klara to be utterly boring, Josie to be shallow and vapid, and her mother disengaged.

??? Not sure what I think. Definitely made me feel like Never Let Me Go, a little, but was missing some of the gut-punch power and emotion of the earlier book. Almost too click-click well-managed and cerebral, not human enough. (And when one of the themes is “what is a human?” then, well.)
ETA: I also read this entire book dreading the moment where I’d feel like Ishiguro copied Anderson’s _Feed_ but the reveal was even more disappointing and _Feed_ was better.
