Shelves: ebook, read-in-2018
Kindle daily deals brought me to Ha, a Vietnamese little girl who need to leave her hometown because of war. What she told inside made me realize I know nothing about this Vietnam war. I think I need to read the background of this book.

This book is funny and painful and hopeful. At a time when our nation (again) is dealing with the implications of refugees fleeing all they have and know to try to find peace and hope in other lands, this book is a sobering reminder that humanity has no country loyalties.

10 year old Hà flees Saigon with her mother and three brothers near the end of the Vietnam War. They have a very difficult boat crossing and spend some time in a refugee camp in Guam before they are sponsored by an American family.

I love a middle grades novel written in verse.

Really enjoyed learning more about the Fall of Vietnam and the refugee experience from the eyes of a 9 (?) year old girl. Beautifully written.
