characters acting out of character! a proliferation of poorly-written villains who are neglected for long stretches of narrative! the introduction of a major character/deus ex machina (no, not that one, the other one.) in the final 100 pages! the interminable and out-of-place hide-curing explication!

Finished my series of the year, just barely. Despite the fact I love Stephen King, I'm not a big fantasy fan, so I didn't love this series. There were some high notes: I loved Oy, and all the connections through ka to an extent. I also thought the ending was great. But ultimately, I'm going to stick to the non-Dark Tower King books from now on, and enjoy the little references to the series in those.

My husband and I started this in audio format back in September, and finally managed to take enough long car trips to finish it!
I think it was a fitting ending to the series. It’s not often that King makes me cry. The series as a whole is truly a masterpiece, however you feel about the rest of King’s work. I recommend the audio version if you find the books a little overwhelming.

Thrilling, tragic, spell-binding. I didn't know how it could end in any acceptable way, but this was it. Part of me wishes I hadn't read the afterward, but I needed to know what was beyond that point, just like Roland.
