As usual, Isabel Allende wrote a very compelling historical fiction, this time is about Spanish Civil War and the migration of its survivors to Chile. I never knew about this history before so it's very interesting to me, to see the aftermath of a war that can change the discourse not only its survivors but also another country altogether.

Good epic story tracing the lives of a couple from the Spanish Civil War through immigration to Chile, leaving Chile after the military coupe and finally returning when democracy returns in the 1990s. I learned about Chilean history which I enjoyed. I had some initial trouble getting into the story since Allende writes in the 3rd person omniscient and I felt somewhat distant from the characters.

Refugees from the Spanish Civil War find a home in Chile. This novel reminded me of all the reasons why I love historical fiction.
