When the elderly mother of a famous actor plans her funeral on the day of her death, it's a situation that seems stranger than fiction. Is it a robbery gone wrong? Did she make a suicide look like murder? Did she know she was going to die? Ex-police detective Hawthorne is asked to help on the case, but he has other things in mind. He wants someone to write about his life and him solving the case, and he only wants one man for the job: Anthony Horowitz.

Decent classic British mystery. I listened to it as an audiobook at the cabin so it was difficult to know how meta it was being (is Tony the screenwriter for Foyle’s War? Was he pitched Tintin 2?) since we don’t have internet. Perhaps it made it better because I just had to listen with no context? Enjoyed it enough to consider read the next installment.
