Near the start of this book, Jason Reynolds says that this book is not a history book, but a present book. That is true in more than one sense - Stamped is the story of where we are and why we are here and it's a present, a gift to all of us.

I want to read the longer version of this as well but this was a good starting point. It's great on audio too - Jason Reynolds (the author) is an excellent narrator.
