Beautifully written and illustrated account of John Lewis's early life and first experiences with the Civil Rights movement, paralleled by Obama's first inauguration. This is open and honest and hopefully will be required reading in all schools soon, now that book three has been published. I can't wait to finish the trilogy.

This is such an amazing book. It's so eye opening. The philosophy of peaceful resistance is so valuable - I wish there was someone today who could be a figure head for another huge peaceful resistance movement. And the brutality the first Freedom Riders and other activists face is astounding - it's unbelievable to me how openly and unabashedly and violently racist and horrible and hurtful people were such a short time ago, and how legislators and law enforcement - who should have been protectors
