This delightful novella is a reminder of both the joy of books and why I am thankful to not be the queen of England. Bennett imagines Queen Elizabeth II introduced to the joys of reading via a mobile library that visits Windsor. Many of those around her are alarmed rather than pleased by this turn of events. I guess that’s no surprise given how much reading does change the reader.
If you love books and have enjoyed other fictional English monarchy books, this one will not disappoint.

The queen of England discovers books when she happens upon a traveling library parked near the palace. This novella is a really quick read (one lunch hour and a train ride), and very funny. I'm definitely going to check out Bennett's other books, including The History Boys.

This novella was quite fun - basically the Queen of England takes up reading (thanks to a bookmobile, woo!) and it's about how she is changed by this newfound pastime.
