I thought this was a charming little story. I could sympathize with the Queen when everyone was giving her a hard time about reading, and with her crankiness when she found herself without a book, and with her struggles to find someone to talk about books with (why do you think I’m so happy I’ve found a great book club?). And the twist at the end is the cherry on the sundae.

Cute novella about what might happen if the queen of England fell in love with reading.

This wasn't a comedy, but it was amusing in places. A very short book, and a pleasure to read.

The Queen finds that a mobile library visits the back of Buck House, and feels obliged to borrow a book. As a result she discovers the joys of reading and is insatiable, reading rather than paying attention to her duties, and trying (often unsuccessfully) to engage others in conversation about books. I don't want to reveal the ending, but suffice to say it has a bit of a twist in the end - the last lin

This book is such a lovely example of why I participate in book challenges. How would I have ever discovered this book if not for hanging out in Book Riot's Read Harder discussion for books written by an author over the age of 65? (Also the topic for one of the squares in my book bingo at work.)

I chose this book as the first book for the read-a-thon that Jefferson and I participated in, and it was fantastic for that purpose. At 120 pages, it was a good way to feel accomplished early in the day,

A marvelous novella about what happens when the Queen of England starts spending more and more of her time reading books. Anyone who loves the craft of reading would enjoy this book. A great read. [I would have given the book five stars but was really bothered by a particularly crude turn of phrase that just didn't fit the character or the book.:] ...more

This book has a bookmobile library and the King of England singing a song from "Oklahoma!" in the first few pages, and it all goes uphill from there. A delightful little story about what would have happened if the Queen had taken up reading, with a fantastic ending. Loved it. ...more

What if the Queen, who never had a hobby because hobbies exclude people, discovered the joys of reading? According to this, the Monarchy totally suffers - but her life improves immeasurably. It was funny and sharp, a little bittersweet, and very well done.
