4.5 stars for this action-packed YA fantasy debut. My only complaint was that the love story wasn’t very believable, so I guess a few more pauses in the action to build up the romance would have been helpful. This book is powerful and important and something that has been missing from the modern American cannon. Anyone who remotely likes fantasy or sci-fi will enjoy this book. There's also a powerful story of our humanity, how people can justify terrible acts, and what it means to be on the "right" side. ...more
