What a fascinating world Toni Adeyemi has created in Children of Blood and Bone. I loved all of the main characters. I loved their strength, their weakness, their interconnectedness. I loved strong girls on their way to becoming strong women.
I do wish I’d read this book at a time when I wasn’t as distracted and busy because I suspect that would have pushed it to five stars.
As it is, I look forward to more time in Orisha when the sequel arrives.

Great, original storytelling and morally complex but still likable characters. As someone who's getting tired of so many cookie cutter European-style world fantasies, I loved this take and I look forward to reading the sequel.

I enjoyed the first 50 pages, but it never got deeper than surface level. I'm not sure if this is just because I don't like reading young adult, or if it was a particularly shallow young adult. I was expecting so much more. The characters felt interchangeable, and there was no complexity to anything. There was so much awkward exposition.
