Oooh, delicious books about books! There's quite a bit of the setup that is ripped off from The Librarians movies and TV show, but I like what they've done with it anyway. The Library exists outside of time (and space?), and Librarians go on missions to alternate Earths to retrieve special texts, particularly fiction texts. I really enjoyed this book - there were points where I felt confused by the complex rules of the worlds it's set in, but I think that's because I was reading too fast because I wanted to know what would happen next. It’s nearly a really fun page-turner. And there are elements of the steam/magic scenario which has potential. And the Library power is quite possibly the niftiest thing in the book (except for one use that’s a bit of a che ...more
