Thank you to Sara and Chelsey on the Novel Pairings Podcast (episode 16) for putting this book - and Nella Larsen, a new-to-me author - on my radar (and my sister's). They suggested that this book would make a great replacement for The Great Gatsby in the canon, and I'm all in for that. It's a classic. I'm glad I finally read it. I don't really have much to say about it. It probably would have had more of an impact on me if I had not read (and loved) The Vanishing Half first.

This would be a great book club choice. The idea of “passing” isn’t one that I’ve thought or read about. Lots to think about!
