This book blew me away. I'm struggling to write this review because I don't know how to explain the heartbreaking devastation of this book. If I hadn't picked this for our book group, I might have put it down because it was difficult to take in just how truly evil human beings can be to one another. I'm so glad I hung in there; this is one of those books that will stay with me forever.

I put this book aside for a month after I started it as I felt I was not "ready" to read it. Whatever that means.
I'm glad I waited to read it with undivided attention. Normally I have a couple of books on the go, but I'm happy I let this one have my undivided attention.
The dual family trees were so intriguing and compelling.
The style of writing is uncompromising. The stories are confronting. Yet hopeful.

Brilliant. Should be required reading for everyone with a pulse.
Wow.
Unfortunately this one just wasn’t for me. Not enough time to develop much empathy with the characters before their vignette is over and we’re on to the next. DNF at 100 pages in.
