This book blew me away. I'm struggling to write this review because I don't know how to explain the heartbreaking devastation of this book. If I hadn't picked this for our book group, I might have put it down because it was difficult to take in just how truly evil human beings can be to one another. I'm so glad I hung in there; this is one of those books that will stay with me forever.

I put this book aside for a month after I started it as I felt I was not "ready" to read it. Whatever that means.
I'm glad I waited to read it with undivided attention. Normally I have a couple of books on the go, but I'm happy I let this one have my undivided attention.
The dual family trees were so intriguing and compelling.
The style of writing is uncompromising. The stories are confronting. Yet hopeful.
