This book is super beautiful!!!!!!! I thought Circe (first book of Madeline Miller that I've read) is good, but this one is incredible!!! Poetic, mesmerizing love story between Achilles and Patroclus. I never read anything about their relationship before so this book is very refreshing to me. The description of their haunting, tragic, but beautiful love story is in contrast with the cruelty, bloody, and chaotic war between Greeks and Trojans. I have never really studied Greek mythology or Greek history, nor have I read the Iliad. I went into The Song of Achilles as though it were (essentially) an entirely original work of fiction in a fictional setting that I was unfamiliar with.
With no baggage of prior knowledge, I have to say that this is one of the best works of fiction that I have read/listened to in a very long time.
I should also note that I listened to this one as an audiobook and the narration is stellar.
