4.5 stars. It took me over two weeks to read the first half of this book and an afternoon to finally finish it. Very engaging reimagining of the events and people in the years leading up to and including the Trojan War. The Achilles we thought we knew from later stories is not the Achilles we see here, one who would do almost anything for his beloved companion, Patroclus. This book was *almost* enough to make me actually read The Iliad and the Aeneid.

If I hadn’t read Circe first I think this book would’ve blown me away. I love that both books give life to characters overlooked in mythology. It’s a great read, but it didn’t grab me like Circe.
