Book Riot 2018 Read Harder Challenge #9 - A book of colonial or postcolonial literature

Amazing yarn, thrillingly written with beautiful, clear prose. I was instantly hooked and read the lot within a day. Amongst the excitement and suspense there was a lot to think about, with no easy answers given, which I appreciate. Surely this has been made into a movie or series. Now to read every one of Butler's books....

Dana, a modern (Well, 1970s) black woman is mysteriously transported back in time to the antebellum south. This book covers a gamut of social issues, such as interracial marriage, slavery, privilege, and moral relativism.
But what I really loved about this book was Dana. She's so practical! I'm so tired of characters that don't behave in ways that reasonable people would. Once she figures her time travelling will reoccur, she does research! She packs a bag of supplies to keep with her!
