PopSugar 2015 Reading Challenge: A book more than 100 years old.

If I had read this book as a child, I might have come closer to enjoying it. But reading it for the first time as an adult was...challenging. It's mawkish. And moralistic. Getting beyond those two things was not really happening.

I read this as a teenager. I liked it then. Rereading it as an adult was actually kinda boring. I think this is because I knew the plot twists that were coming. I felt it dragged in places. Too much detail. But that is me reading it for a purpose (book group) and wanting to move on to something else so I think that tempered my feeling towards the book as an adult.

Re-read, because I wanted something gentle during this surreal time in history.
I loved the Gerwig movie- which took all the best bits of the book. I daresay the movie is better than the book.
