Read the second time from 28 June 2012 to 13 August 2012, here was my review then: So . . . I'm not big on favorites. I have no idea what my favorite movie is (although I like movies a lot) and I don't have a favorite musical artist (though I could give you a top five or six.) But after this, my second read -- this is my favorite book. And you should read it.

Colombia - It took me forever to read this - nearly a year, IIRC. I was uncomfortably lost in it for a while, but eventually found that it had a lot in common with several German novels (Novalis' Heinrich von Ofterdingen and Goethe's Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre, for instance) and got a better feel for what García Marquez was trying to do. I really need to go back to read it again and think about it properly.

For the first half or so of this book, I thought it was "very interesting" and I enjoyed reading it. It slowly dawned on me just how beautiful and heartbreaking it is -- and exactly how appropriate the title is.
