I have been absolutely slayed by this book. I hate hockey and I yet couldn’t put it down. It’s kind of like Friday Night Lights - a number of hugely sympathetic characters and the anticipation of sports and courtroom drama. The central conflict is brutal, but the story that allows for people to grow and forgive and do the right thing is a wonder to behold in these times. A Man Called Ove was great but I remember it being a bit schmaltzy. This book proves how well Backman understands human nature, down to its core.
It made me think so much about how I, as a parent to both a boy and a girl, would react in each situation.
