This book was such a pleasure to read, even though it led us inside the head of a very anxious young woman. That anxiety was not a device used for plot; it was real, and it did not go away once she acquired a boyfriend or a serious sum of money. Her anxiety spoke to my anxiety and was real, and I appreciate that as a reader. Things don't tie up super neatly in this book, which mimics and respects real life. The language was fun, the characters were alive and real, and the pages kept turning.

High school isn't easy for most people. However, if you face a daily (frequently debilitating) fear of serious infection it puts a different slant on the situation. Adding that your an only child and your father passed away in a car accident certainly increases the challenges. In this case, Aza has a challenging time stepping outside of herself to see that in fact, that she is playing a key supporting role in other people's narratives.
