Read Harder - more than 500 pages.
4 stars even though the ending was not the one I wanted (since it was neither happy nor redemptive), but still I thought it was a terrific novel. I noticed a few similarities between Richard and Theo (the main character from The Goldfinch - which btw, I didn't enjoy nearly as much as this one) - drugs, lack of direction. Great summer read. College kids at an East Coast liberal arts school, secrets, gossip, murder. Loved it cover to cover.
I always struggle when there are no characters that I care for in a story. Particularly when it is quite long. Every character in this story is problematic with varying grades of questionable morality. That said, there was an interesting premise and the part 1 and 2 structure was used effectively.
