This book was chilling and compelling.
The strangeness of the story yet with so much reference to a possible future. The fact it was written almost 40 years ago does not diminish its impact in anyway. I think it is even more forceful for that.
The narrative style would not suit everyone. Yet I felt the stark structure leant itself to this story.

I wanted to re-read this book that made such an impression on me in college that I called it a favorite and now has the Hulu series. It is as good as I remember, though recent articles I have read had opened my eyes to race and culture issues that are ignore. I have an old version of the book, but the new one has a introduction by Atwood explaining that she didn't include anything that wasn't done to women in some part of history, and provided context for her examples. I read this book YEARS ago, probably in the early '90s. I want to reread it before the Hulu series comes out!
update 3/2017: I listened to the audio version, read by Claire Danes. She does an amazing job, and I forgot how good (and how chilling) this story is. Can't wait to see the Hulu version! ...more
