I really enjoyed everything about this book - all the science, the hard work, the beautiful writing and Jahren's true love of nature. She does an excellent job narrating; I was really touched by the emotion she showed.

Wow!! I picked up this book on a bit of a lark at a local discount bookstore, but I loved every word of it. From the first page, Jahren captivated me with her prose. If she wasn't such a clearly brilliant scientist I would strenuously argue she should be a writer full time. This book made me remember why I love beautifully written novels (I've been on a nonfiction kick for awhile). Seriously friends, read this. Unfortunately, I don't understand the excitement and buzz about this memoir. I picked it up on audio because several bookish friends loved it (both on audio and in print), and I found it meditative but lacking something. Most memoirs indicate growth. Instead, I found Jahren's treatment of students as an academic pretty poor. She also spent a lot of time on minor stories, while barely scratching the surface on some of the meatier ones.
